How to Mix Bentonite Clay

Bentonite is widely used as a suspending, stabilizing and binding agent and as an adsorbent or clarifying agent in toiletries, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals and chemicals.

It is also one of the main raw materials used in drilling muds. Bentonite can take up several times its own weight in water to form a highly thixotropic colloidal suspension or gel. Some grades of Bentonite can be dispersed into water relatively easily with conventional mixing equipment - but to fully activate the thickening effect and obtain full yield you need to use a high shear mixer. Silverson offers a range of mixers for this application, as shown in this “how-to” video.
