Silverson Flashmix improves company processing time by 23 hours
Cleaning product manufacturers process time improved by over 23 hours by using the Silverson Flashmix.
Silverson has recently sold a Flashmix FMX50 powder/liquid mixer to a company manufacturing cleaning products such as hand sanitizer gel and gel descaling products.
The company contacted Silverson via the website as they wanted help to reduce their mixing time and eliminate agglomerates from their powder/liquid mixes. They mix a number of different powders for different products and their mixing requirements included dispersing Xanthan Gum, CMC powder, Carbomers, and pigments. Mixing volumes varied depending on the product from 925 US gallons (3500 liters) to 7130 US gallons (27000 liters).
A trial was run at the company's facility using an FMX50 with General Purpose Disintegrating Head on a number of their products and different sized vessels to test its capabilities across a range of volumes and powders. The first trial involved dispersing 17kg of Xanthan Gum into 925 gallons of Vinegar. Previously the company had been using a fast impeller but the process had been taking a whole day to complete - and they still had to remove agglomerates after this time, leaving them with a poor-quality mix. Using the FMX50 all of the Xanthan Gum was introduced in 50 seconds and it was then left to recirculate. After 35 minutes the mixture was to the exact standard required with no lumps - saving over 23 hours on their normal mixing time!

The company was very impressed with this exceptional result from the Flashmix and trials continued on a number of their other applications including mixing water/alcohol with Methocel (Methylcellulose and Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose polymers) and mixing water with Xanthan Gum and other powders like Sodium Carbonate, all of which worked well.
The Flashmix was also used on a 7130-gallon vessel for incorporating 625kgs of natural pigment (walnut stain) and the result was very good. The Flashmix was also cleaner than their previous method as there was less dust and the bags were easier for the operators to handle as the powder could be added at ground level.
As the Flashmix was successful in all the applications tested and saved a huge amount of time along with many other benefits, the company purchased the FMX50 immediately after the trials.
