The Meto Systems drum conditioner series (variously called drum massagers, drum compressors, drum squeezers, box conditioners, bag conditioners or some variation thereof) are designed to safely and effectively break up hygroscopic material that has hardened in a drum, other cylindrical containers, or box/bag. Manufactured from 304 stainless steel, the system consists of a fixed structure with a set of four, 2.5in, telescoping pneumatic cylinders that generate up to 1,600lb of crushing force on the target drum/box/bag. Depending on the requested application this unit can be purchased in either the Drum Configuration or the Box Configuration (Refer to the Drum Conditioner PDF Download).
Both configurations consist of a pair of compression bars at the front of the unit, which can swing open and give the operator access to the turntable located at the center of the mobile base. Similarly, both configurations also consist of a pair of crush bars which must be mounted to the center column at the back of the unit. The drum/box/bag is placed onto the turntable, between the compression bars and the crush bars, and the cylinders draw the pair of compression bars towards the crush bars effectively squeezing the drum/box/bag in the process. Both the compression bars and crush bars can be set at varying heights to accommodate different drum/box/bag heights and shapes (Refer to the Drum Conditioner PDF Download). A stainless steel turntable enables operators to continue conditioning the drum/box/bag without needing to lift the drum/box/bag in order to rotate.
METO Systems also offers an open front model drum conditioner. The open front unit provides the exact same performance and configurations as the standard unit, except the open entry drum conditioner works better for applications requiring the unit to operate with the drums/boxes still on their dolly’s. The on-board turntable has been removed in this model, making way for a wheeled dolly and drum/box.
Additional Options
For certain materials, the standard compression bars and crush bars may not be able to condition the material due to material properties, temperature, bulk density, etc. For this purpose, METO Systems has developed Force Concentrator (FC) Bars as add-ons that can attach to any of the standard configurations. The FC Bars are square angle, vertical crush bars that focus the unit’s clamp force to a singular line of impact on the box/drum/bag. The simple, thumb-screw, design allows the operator to mount them on top of the compression bars and/or the crush bars with ease (Refer to the Drum Conditioner PDF Download). Use of one or both FC Bars on a unit can increase the applied pressure to a drum/box/bag to a maximum of 147.8% more than the standard compression bar/crush bar setup.
